Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has tactfully avoided the question of whether he kept in touch with Russian President Vladimir Putin after leaving the White House. He said, ‘If I did, it is a sign of intelligence.’
Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward wrote in his latest book ‘War’ that Trump has spoken with President Putin on several occasions since leaving the White House in January 2021.
In an interview on Tuesday, Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwaite directly asked former US President Trump about Woodward’s new book.
In response, Trump said, “I will not say anything about it.” But I can tell you this, if I did it (contacting Putin), it was a sign of intelligence. If I am friendly with people, if I have a relationship with people, that is a good thing, not a bad thing.
Avoiding the first question, Trump said that Putin’s terms of ending the war are not acceptable
In the debate between US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in the Atlanta studio of CNN, tension has spread over the Ukraine war.
At one point, US President and Democratic candidate Joe Biden warned that he believes Vladimir Putin is a ‘war criminal’. Biden also alleged that Putin wants to re-establish the old ‘Soviet empire.
For the first time in four years, Biden took part in a face-to-face debate with former President Donald Trump at around seven in the morning Bangladesh time.
Biden said, “Do you think he (Putin) wants to stop the war there (Ukraine)? . . . What do you think is happening in Poland, in Belarus, in NATO countries?”
In the debate, Biden also insisted on giving Ukraine more weapons than the United States could afford. The US president said, “These are the reasons why we are strong.”
Meanwhile, CNN host Dana Bash first asked Trump about Putin’s conditions for ending the war in Ukraine. Skipped Trump’s answer the first time. Then Bash asked Trump for the second time, “Are Putin’s terms acceptable to you?” Trump replied, “No, they are not acceptable.
