The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a new proposal to ensure India’s participation in the Champions Trophy. The PCB has told the BCCI that if there is any concern about their security in Pakistan, they should arrange for the Indian cricket team to return home on the day of the match after every match. Several media outlets in India have reported such news about the news agency PTI.
In that case, India will camp in Delhi, Chandigarh or Mohali. From there, India will take a chartered flight to Lahore, the venue of the match. Will return to the camp after the match. However, this proposal has not yet been officially given to BCCI by PCB, a source of PCB has confirmed that
The PCB source told PTI, “It is true that there has been an option discussed among the officials to ensure that India play their matches on Pakistani soil.
A few days ago, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that if India does not travel to Pakistan to play in the Champions Trophy, the tournament is likely to take place in a ‘hybrid model’.
This model was followed in the 2023 Asia Cup. India’s matches were eventually held in Sri Lanka after BCCI refused to send a team to Pakistan. If the BCCI’s decision is the same in the case of the Champions Trophy this time, a part of the tournament may be played in the United Arab Emirates or Sri Lanka in a ‘hybrid model’.
From zero to century, Sarfraz is making India dream
But Pakistan is against this model. They have prepared their own draft schedule to host the entire tournament at home. According to that schedule, all of India’s matches will be played in Lahore. PCB has kept all the matches of India in one venue to avoid security risk.
The next edition of the ICC Champions Trophy will begin in February 2025. India did not tour Pakistan after 2008. The two teams did not even play a bilateral series after the 2012-13 season due to lack of approval from the Government of India. However, the two neighbors face each other in the ICC tournament.
